A real pleasure
If you hate to shave because of the irritation, this product is what you've been looking for. It takes a little practice to use the right amount (especially if you're not used to using a shaving brush), but once you've mastered that you'll find that this shaving cream works better than any "over-the-counter" product you've ever used. Unlike some of the other expensive "artsy" shaving products, this products rinses clean and leaves your face moisturized. Sure, it's more expensive than the canned stuff, but the improved comfort will be well worth the money.
This is by far, the best shaving cream that I have ever used.

...I look forward to shaving. This is a most delightful experience! (This comment comes from a rather negative person who can find fault with just about anything.) I read about this stuff in the Chicago Tribune many months ago when they did a comparison of new shaving products for men. I finally decided to try it.
I have very sensitive skin and have been nicking myself daily since the day I learned to shave. Delivery system is a blue tube instead of a can and product comes out looking like a cream but turns into a colorless oil when applied to the face. The razor glides right over the skin and feels great! I can shave right over my face, adam's apple and chin without any nicks. Face is so smooth! Although pricey at $15 a tube, I feel it's well worth it.
Girls taking over....
At $15 this is a pricey product... but oh so fantastic! I have dark, coarse hair on my legs (I know, I know... UGH!). I hate shaving because of all the razor bumps and nicks I always get. This product is very light, smells fantastic and you only have to use a little. I really thought because of the fragrance in it, it would sting while or after shaving... not at all. I got a very close, smooth shave (my husband was impressed) and no nicks, bumps or scrapes. You can use it every day without worring about razor burn. A little goes a long way and I will definitely buy this again. Surprisingly enough... my husband doesn't care for it... but what does he know!!

Big Difference
I really like this cream over store bought stuff. It doesn't irritate my skin and it really allows the blade to glide off of your face nicely. Definitely worth getting. I would also buy a badger hair brush to apply it with.

BEST eyelash curler for Asians
This eyelash curler is the only kind that can successfully and painlessly curl my eyelashes. I'm Asian American, so I can't use the standard metal eyelash curler because the curve on it is way too deep! I have to smash the curler into my face to get it flat up against the roots of my eyelashes, which is never quite successful.
The Seki Edge has a much flatter, visible, and accessible curve to it. It actually runs PERPENDICULAR to your face instead of parallel (which makes so much more sense, in my opinion!), so you can clearly see exactly what you are doing at all times. The lever mechanism is extremely intuitive and easy to handle...I don't know how you ladies do it with that crazy scissor-like metal contraption that looks like a torture tool to me!
The other great thing about this curler is that the lever (the white plastic poking out on the right) folds up when not in use, securing the curler and protecting the metal part and pads that touch your eyelids. And once it's folded, it's basically flat, so it fits much more easily in your makeup bag/purse than those other horrible metal curlers!

this's the most amazing shaving cream I've ever used and believe me, I've used a few!!! my neck's really sensitive to the razor, and until now, it'd get irritated EVERYtime I shaved - not so much with Jack Black!!! it's like the hair just wipes right off!!! it also smells REALLY good!!! how many shaving creams smell good??
The next best thing to shaving soap and a brush.
I haven't looked at a shaving cream since I saw the light and switched to shaving soap and a brush but I received a sample of this product in an order from Details for Men (Highly Recommended Dealer). I have to admit this worked really well. It was by far the best shave I've ever gotten from a cream. I wouldn't replace my soap/brush with it but I might get some to take when I travel to save some room. It has eucalyptus in it so it does "tingle" a little. If your a cream user, give it a try. I think you will be very pleased.

Could be better
This razor comb is much better than the average razor comb, but it COULD be so much better. I'm not sure if the dial to adjust the razor makes a significant difference. I am not a professional stylist so I wouldn't know. But maybe a seasoned stylist would find that feature useful. All I know is that when my hair stylist uses her razor comb it's a lot more precise. For $12 I expected more out of this.

38C is a great shaver
I purchased the Merkur 38C (chrome barberpole) as my first double edge (DE) razor in over 35 or so years. I had gotten tired of crappy shaves from multi-blade cartridge razors, with each cartridge costing so much. The last straw was a brand new Quattro cartridge that was so rough it felt like someone was dragging the jagged edge of a tin can across my face ... backwards.
After doing some research on DE razors and blades, I settled on and ordered the Merkur 38C, along with a sampler pack of blades and some high quality shave cream.
The good:
* The 38C is a heavy razor. This is an advantage because in DE shaving you want the razor and blade to do the work, not the pressure of pushing the blade against your face, as you must do with cartridge razors.
* The finish on my razor was pretty near perfect, so don't let the previous review put you off. If there is a problem, any reputable retailer should honour an exchange.
* The 38C is a somewhat "mild" razor. That is, the blade gap and angle afforded by the head design is such that even with the sharpest of blades you can shave comfortably ... given proper technique, of course. I wouldn't advise using a Feather blade as your first experience with this razor; use a somewhat milder blade. Being milder rather than very aggressive, this gives the user a lot of latitude with blade selection.
The less good:
* The barberpole pattern on the handle could be a little deeper. Some people have reported problems with the razor being a bit too slippery, but I have never had a problem.
* The razor is heavy. This is actually an advantage as noted above, but some people may not like the feel. So for me (and I suspect most people who try this razor), this is not a problem at all.
All-in-all, this is a great product. I won't downrate it for not be adjustable, because (duh), there are adjustable models from Merkur and other manufacturers. If that's what you need or want, then don't buy the 38C.
I have other DE razors which also can give really good shaves ... a Schick Stainless (aka Krona), a Feather Portable, a 1940s Gillette SuperSpeed. If I were forced to live with only one, I could easily live with the 38C as my only razor. Not that that will happen, mind you!

As much as I hate shaving, L'Occitane's shaving soap refill (assuming you have the shaving bowl first:-) is wonderful and makes the morning experience bearable. I came over here to buy the soap and found a way to review it. The soap is gently scented. You won't smell like a pimp. Use it with a decent pre-shave oil and then rinse thoroughly, and you will be a reasonably happy puppy.

I didn't use aftershave -- Until Now!
I never liked using aftershave because of the alcohol effects on my sensitive skin, but I really like the Cade After Shave Balm - I've been using it for years now - so when I saw this Splash, I thought I'd give it a try. I was very glad I did! I absolutely love the scent of this stuff. With all the different wood oils, ginger extract, and juniper extract it has the scent of...the only way I can describe it is...of a northern woods lodge during the holiday season. It's nostalgic and homey to me. I wish they made a cologne out of it. I like to use the Splash, and then follow it up with the Balm...my face is smooth and hydrated all the time. It thanks me for it.

SLOW AND STEADY WINS THE RACE!
I recently decided to use a safety razor and did my due diligence to find out "WHAT'S THE BEST"!!! Knowing that the finest cutlery and machined products are made in Germany, I went with Merkur. In reviewing what this brand had to offer, I was attracted to the "Razor Dial" and "Butterfly Style" of the Merkur Vision #2000. Since I believe you get what you pay for, due to it's cost and features, this appeared to be the best for me. After purchasing the razor and putting it into action, I was glad my wife bought me the "Art of Shaving" starter kit, which contains the pre-shaving Aloe oil, cream, after-shave balm, fine Badger brush and CD. I say this because the CD was so informative regarding proper shaving techniques that I approached safety razor shaving and this Vision razor as if I never shaved with a safety razor before. Upon setting up my face for the first stroke I picked up the Vision #2000 and thought I had a 1lb piece of lead in my hand. This razor is heavy! In allowing the weight to be the only pressure I put to my face, the stroke was effortless and left a 75% clean face ( I have a heavy beard.) I found that the blade adjustment needed to be fairly closed, maybe a 3 out of 10 adjustments, otherwise I would need to call 911 or deal with the worst "razor burn" ever. That said, I re-lathered my face and started to shave against the grain, only allowing the weight of the razor to dictate the pressure. My face was like baby skin! This razor means business... To pull it around your face can only mean disaster! Enjoy that time when you shave, after all, you're not shaving your legs.

I purchased this Razor on the advice of a sales person, big mistake.
I was told if I liked the Futur which I own, this would give an even better shave. I just had to buy it.So how could I go wrong. Well I did. I love my Merkur Futur DE and I should have left the Vision at the store.It is far to heavy and ungainly.After the first shave with it I nearly ran out of Alum. I must have had twenty freaking cuts, some rather nasty.Like I said I love my Futur DE, but Merkur should scrap this model. Tt stinks.Don't be a Dummy like me and think more is better.
The Futur is a beautiful DE Razor and only costs half as much as this over priced Face Chisel.

Imagine a hatchet fight between you and the knife juggling Benihana Ninja guy who beheads shrimp and effortlessly flicks them on your plate even if he's blindfolded. Imagine Freddy Kruger and Edward Scissor-hands giving you an enthusiastic facial massage. Visualize falling head first into your kitchen sink garbage disposal. That's a pretty good approximation of what remains of your face after shaving with the Vision 2000 razor. I'm convinced that the doubling of life expectancy in our time can be traced not to cleaner hygiene and better medical care; but to the switch from these "safety" razors to Gillette Techmatics. I want to love this thing for it's sheer manliness and heft, and the fact that the blades are one tenth the price of Gillette cartridges. And I believe with the right technique and extreme care it can be tamed. Some tips: 1.DO NOT EXERT ANY PRESSURE WHILE SHAVING WITH THIS. 2.DIAL IT SO THE BLADE IS BARELY EXPOSED 3.USE AN ESSENTIAL OIL UNDER THE SHAVE LOTION. 4. DO NOT USE REPEATED OR RAPID STROKES. 5.DO NOT SHAVE WITH THIS LESS THAN 2 HOURS BEFORE YOU PLAN TO LEAVE THE HOUSE OR PUT ON ANY CLOTHING. 6. BUY THE BRICK SIZED STYPTIC BLOCK, OWN ONLY DARK COLORED FACE TOWELS, HAVE ALOE JELL CLOSE AT HAND, BE CERTAIN YOUR WILL IS PREPARED BY A COMPETENT LAWYER. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE DIRECTIONS AND YOUR BATHROOM AND FACE WILL LOOK LIKE A CRIME SCENE. These may be the real WMD's that Saddam was producing.
(July 26, 2009) Like learning a martial art, practice and technique are what change you from a guy wearing white pajamas to a confident black belt. Fortunately and without needing corrective plastic surgery I finally mastered this razor and now I actually look forward to shaving. The secret, at least for me, was using the right blade....Feather...using a preshave oil to lubricate and protect the skin applied before and under the lather, (Strangely enough, olive oil works amazingly.) and the right shave cream...Proraso. With that approach, there hasn't been any profuse bleeding, or a single nick or cut for that matter and the shave is incredibly smooth. I can now give an enthusiastic 5 stars.
